Kevin Drum has a post up where he quotes Republican senator Alan Simpson of Wyoming, speaking (writing, actually) about Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Simpson's come to Jesus moment on the issue was when he learned that we had fired something like 300 translators as a result of DADT, including 50 who were fluent in Arabic. This, while Rice acknowledged that we have a "foreign language deficit" especially among Arabic speakers.
Good for Simpson for getting off the moron train, I guess. But my thing is, given the figures he cites, how much longer to Repubs get to wear the He-Man cape when they are so afraid of gay people, they fire them even though we DESPERATELY NEED THEM,
I don't remember the details, but there was some terrorist document that we were in possession of before 9/11 that was a huge red flag pointing to the attacks, and we didn't get it translated until after the fact. Because we don't have enough Arab translators.
And we still fire Arab translators because they're gay.
Shouldn't it be easier to bring these idiots down? Honestly, I'm asking.

Interesting to know.
