Imus was talking to Chris Matthews about the Libby verdict, and he remembers this from a conversation with NYT Brainiac Tom Friedman...
"I was talking to Tom Friedman, who I think we can all agree is a pretty good reporter..."
"Yeah..."
"And he said, uh, what he fundamentally didn't understand is how any reporter, and particularly Joe Wilson, who's not a reporter, but how any reporter could go to Niger and pretty much find out anything. I mean he was able, how Joe Wilson was able to determine anything. I mean, if you really wanted to know what happened there, the CIA, you'd send a team of people."
"Yeah, that's a good question. That's one of these questions about competence."
Yeah, I agree. It sure is a question about competence. Seems to me Joe Wilson had a bit of experience in Africa, also Iraq. I think Friedman's comment (and Matthews' response) says a lot more about Friedman (and Matthews).
