I hear lots of people say that the Republican party counts on low voter turnout to win elections, and I tend to agree. Certainly, their behavior in 2000 and 2004 can be construed as some proof of this. So, my super-quick Lightning Round! proposal is this: Democrats should spend some money on very quick,very simple, NON-PARTISON ads encouraging people to vote.

No name-calling, no calling politicos on lies or sleazy practices, no issues at all, save one: VOTE.

A sample message might be: Your Vote Matters.

They could be a bit more complex but not too much. People smarter than me can think of more convincing phrases to get people to the polls. But the point is to get them there.

And I don't think there should be any credit on the ads. No "Paid for by the DNC" or anything like that. That's not what it's about, and besides, sooner or later people would know who produced them. But they would be beyond reproach, because they would do nothing but encourage Americans to vote. And that would be good for Democrats, and bad for Republicans. (And good for the USA!)

Kicking Ass

                                                  CHUNKY SOUP GOING DOWN!!!!

Alright gang, most of you know the story here, but for those who are just joining us, I'll recap.
A little while ago I purchased a can of Campbell's Chunky Savory Pot Roast Soup...

Now, on the back of the can there is an NFL trivia question. Nice! You heat up your soup and think about football. Good times. On the back of this particular can was a question I knew the answer to immediately...

Easy, right? Apparently not to the folks at Campbell's...



When I went to their website to verify what I knew to be true I was confronted with a terrible, terrible lie...

EVERYBODY knows this record belongs to my sweet Bears. Specifically Nathan Vasher, who returned a missed field goal one hundred and EIGHT yards this year for a touchdown.

Now I tried EVERYTHING I could think of. Calling them on the phone, writing them a letter, demonstrating outside their corporate offices, but I was simply too lazy to do any of those things. NOTHING WORKED!!
Then I noticed a link on their web site that said "Contact" so I clicked on it. Three days later I had finished two eloquent paragraphs registering my disappointment. Four days after that I hit "Send."

FINALLY, after almost a 12 hours, I received a reply. But it was well worth the wait. Check it out:

Mr. Tom Bell, we received your message and appreciate your taking the
time to contact Campbell Soup Company.

We have forwarded your comments and concerns to the appropriate
department.

Not sure what those numbers mean at the end mean, but I'm pretty sure it's something like "PLEASE! WE'LL CHANGE IT! WE PROMISE! ENOUGH! YOU'VE BROKEN US! STOOOOOP! (weeping)"

Anyway, as of today, the wrong answer is still up on the web site, but clearly, heads are going to roll on this thing. You bet I'm going to keep you posted!
