Thanks, Orel!

Well, it's been fun. This past week we've paid tribute to various Moral Orel creators, including Jay, Carolyn, Nick, Dino, and yes, even Otis.

The big online chat with Dino was a HUGE success! Thanks to EVERYONE who came out and participated! And by everyone, I mean Otis.

Before we get back to the Bell Business at hand, I'm just going to wrap up Moral Orel Week with a couple of music videos. Both were created (very effectively) using footage from the show. Both are great songs, in my opinion, although they could not be more different. The first uses a song by Rancid. The second, a song by Io Perry, who might be romantically linked to Jay Johnston, I'm not sure. I suppose I could call Jay to check, or maybe call Dino cuz he would probably know, but that would require just a little more effort than I'm willing to put out right now. So. My. Hands. Are. Tied.

Anyway, these are cool videos.

Io Perry

Anyway, it's been a roller coaster of a week. I've praised Moral Orel, I've bitched about it. In the end, I think we can all agree that the bitching was more on the mark.

What's going to happen today in the much anticipated Pt II of the episode that aired a few days ago? Who can say? Who can care? Tune in to (I think) the Adult Swim website to find out!

Another thing, on a serious note, I actually do love Moral Orel. I wish it were more than ten minutes long, especially now that Dino and the gang are getting more into the characters. The last episode felt way too short. But whatever. That's nitpicking. It's a good show. Tivo that shit.

Scott_adsitt UPDATE: Scott Adsit is a nice man, and a very talented actor who also contributes to Moral Orel in some fashion. I remember him from college.

Moral Orel Week Continues!!!

Orels2

It's no secret that the voices of all our favorite animated prepubescent boys are, in fact, adult women. Which is why I feel comfortable dedicating this post to the voice of Moral Orel, Carolyn Lawrence!

I first met Carolyn back when she was tied romantically to my friend Mike Stoyanov, of TV's Blossom.

By the way, Mayim Bialik... very cool person. I'm pretty sure she's now a brain surgeon. (Take that Gary Coleman!)

Anyhoo, Carolyn is awesome as well. At least she was always very nice to me. It's quite possible that she hates gypsies, or some such thing. I don't know. Frankly, I don't want to know.

But you have to love her work on Moral Orel. (and for that matter her portrayal of Sandy Squirrel on Sponge Bob) She does an amazing job.

And now, thanks to Google, I'm able to offer you a little perspective. For example...

Moral Orel Week Begins!

Clipboard01

So, it's Monday, and like I said before, every day this week I'm going to post something about Moral Orel. We'll kick this thing off with a post about Jay Johnston, who has written, produced, directed and acted in the show. He does a bunch of characters, including Coach Stopframe (above).

Simply put, Jay is one of the funniest people I've ever met. He's certainly the funniest physical comedian I know. I wish I could describe some of the bits I've seen him do just in someone's living room (bits that make you laugh so hard that it really really hurts) but I can't do any of them justice. A while back I had the chance to see him in a staged reading of the holy grail of bad comedy, Jerry Lewis' The Day the Clown Cried. He played Helmut Doork, the Jerry Lewis role. All I can say is, if you ever hear that they're restaging it, do ANYTHING you can to go see it. I know, it's a staged reading, but Jay is up and about for pretty much the entire thing, and he is amazing.

Here is a link to my favorite Mr. Show sketch, which happens to feature Jay (I think he wrote it too):

The Story of Everest

My favorite thing about this sketch is that you're watching it and you're laughing your ass off, and then after a little while, you think it must be over, but then it just keeps going for like another four minutes, and it doesn't stop being funny. I honestly don't know of another comedian that could have pulled this sketch off.

REMEMBER!: We'll be having our super-incredible online chat with Dino Stamatopoulos, creator of Moral Orel, on Thursday the 12th at 8PM ET!
